Contributing to WordPress

As a WordPress developer, custom site development is my primary focus and revenue source. For years, I felt compelled to give back to the open source community that made this possible. Initially, I thought contributing meant diving deep into code – mastering WordPress coding standards, navigating pull requests with the core team, taking even more time away from family… the prospect was overwhelming.

Then I discovered a simpler path: contributing through GitHub issue discussions and feedback. This avenue of participation is just as valuable. Through make.wordpress.org, anyone can join various WordPress teams and contribute meaningfully. If WordPress powers your career, consider getting involved – even simple troubleshooting can earn you a “core contributor” badge on your wordpress.org profile.
